Best Fish and Chips (The Regency Restaurant, Brighton, UK)
20:13Fish and Chips is the most well-known British dish. For me, I think it is their national dish.
I have a love-hate relationship with this dish. I used to have it every Friday for lunch at school. (it's a British tradition) Well, it's school lunch after all, so it sort of put me off. However, it is the Regency Restaurant in Brighton brings me back to the world of Fish and Chips.
It was a lovely day in Brighton. A not very typical warm and sunny mid-summer day. (in the UK, the weather really is quite dull) After some shopping in Churchill Square and the North Lane, we headed to the famous Regency Restaurant for a lovely seaside lunch. It really did live up to the hype!
We ordered a fried cod fillet. The fish was fresh and sweet. But what I liked the most was its batter. It was nicely seasoned, crispy and cooked beautifully. It complimented the fish perfectly and lift the whole dish to another level. One word, delicious! As for the chips, they were nice, but did not have the 'wow' effect. They were just some nicer typical British chips.
Apart from the Fish and Chips, I also ordered a Moules mariniere and a Fish soup. They were both very good, but Fish and Chip was the star of that meal.
Moreover, given its beautiful Atlantic Ocean view, seagull watching and delicious food, the restaurant priced its food reasonably.
Fish Soup £2.75
Moules mariniere £4.50
Fried fillet of cod £5.25
