I am sure most of you reading this blog would have no idea where Qingyuan is. In fact, I had no idea where this place is until I saw it on a Hong Kong local television reality show a few months ago. I was immediately drawn in by its beautiful scenery. My two-night trip to Qingyuan was very relaxing and inspiring that is enough to compare with those luxurious beach holidays.
Yingde Landscape Attractions

Yingde Landscape is one of the most popular attractions in Qingyuan, attracting millions of tourists to this place every year. The locals call this chain of stone mountains, the Corridor. This 20 kilometers long corridor has over 1000 mountains of all kind; and in between these mountains, there are many lakes and villages. These places are very peaceful calm that lakes have beautiful reflections of the mountains.
I would say Yingde Landscape are some of the most beautiful things I saw on this trip, it is also what attracted me to to come here in the first place. Not only the natural beauty was breath-taking, what I liked the most was the simple lifestyle that the villagers have.
Villages in Yingde

They are definitely not the wealthy batch, in fact, they are rather poor. However, their lives seem so much happier and simpler than most people in a buzzling city like Hong Kong. Instead of attending eminent schools and looking for respected glamouros job, they are happy to walk for a few hours to school. Some may say they are happy because they do not know the glamorousity outside, but what inspired me the most is their determination and persistence and how much they treasure education.

Peng Family Ancfestral Temple

In Qingyuan, there is a small fortress that owns by the Peng Family in the region. From distance, it looks like the Potala Palace from Tibet, therefore, the local calls the fortress, the Petite Potala Palace. The fortress was built on the hill and was used to defend the village from invaders. Nowadays, it is a tourist destination and a viewpoint to the stone mountain corridor.

Travel Tips
Qingyuan is no Shanghai or Beijing, it is a typical suburb in China and it's rather less developed in Western standard. 99% of the people you meet do not speak any English. I recommend taking a 2-day or 3-day tour departing from Hong Kong as the places recommended above are rather difficult to get to through public transport.
